Introduction

The Corporate Governance Research Center was established in 2005, with the purpose of combining practice and academe and offering a research platform. This platform will integrate the outstanding scholars from the different fields of the College of Business who will research on current corporate governance and related topics and publish their results regularly.

At the same time, the center aims to help companies in Central Taiwan by hosting corporate governance workshops and academic conferences, as well as provide professional diagnosis and consultation services to gradually improve the corporate governance system in each company.

Dr. K.T. Chen, the center's director, has help lead the center show prolific results by hosting several faculty workshops each year with scholars and graduate students participating from within and outside the campus. Dr. K.T. Chen also has assisted the Department of Accounting by inviting noted speakers, such as The Honorable Justice Lai In-Jaw, and the Honorable Justice Yu Syue-Ming to conduct talks on corporate governance.

The center, in cooperation with the Taiwan Corporate Governance Association hosted a “Corporate Governance Theory and Academic Conference” in 2005, inviting a total of 12 publications. The Center also hosted a “New Trends on Corporate Governance and Accounting Supervision Conference” along with the Graduate Institute of Financial and Economic Law on 2007, publishing a total of 36 papers; both conferences have shown excellent performances.

Through the center's research platform, professors in the Department of Accounting can increase their academic cooperation with the professors of accounting, statistics, and other business departments both within and outside the campus. This can be done by exchanging research expertise, hosting advocacy meeting and workshops, and promoting legal and economic law as well as corporate governance concepts.
