The faculty specialties in the Department of Civil Engineering cover four professional fields: Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Surveying and Information, Construction Management and Property Management.
There are remarkable research results and plentiful engineering trainings and special topics study in the areas of nondestructive detection, vibration control, earthquake proof, structural reinforcement, disaster prevention and mitigation, and of GIS and GPS. In addition to theoretical instruction and practical applications, the Department especially concentrates on the research and development of the new technology and its transfer, the globalization and the knowledge economization, and contributes a great deal to community engineering education.
Students may participate in each designed program, including the Project Management, Geographical Information Application, Water and Soil Environmental Management, and many other common programs available.
In response to the era of e-learning environment, the Department has established a project- and practice-oriented e-designed teaching platform, via the three-year department characteristic plan; and the Department has combined the faculty’s professional fields, to embark the “practical software” centered curriculum for undergraduate students and the “engineering application subject” centered curriculum for graduate students.
With a multi-dimensional teacher’s class, a high quality family system, and the learning to concern life values, the Department has integrated the undergraduate classes with master’s and doctoral classes to form a complete Civil Engineering education system; and the Department, by the numerous alumni accumulated from past years since its foundation in 1961, has become a domestic and solid Civil Engineering group.
