History

Established in 1963, Department of Finance was an integral part of Department of Banking and Insurance. In 1995, both finance and insurance career tracks become independent departments of Business College. The Graduate Institute was founded in 2000. In the fall of 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the Departments of Insurance (renamed the Department of Risk Management and Insurance) and Finance were incorporated into the new College of Finance. Today, Feng Chia is internationally recognized for both its undergraduate and graduate programs in Finance.

 

Education Goals

The goal of the department is to cultivate students with four core competencies (FACT):

l  Financial Knowledge

Students possess basic financial knowledge and ability.

l  Attitude and Ethics

Students demonstrate awareness of financial ethics and attitudes under in any financial setting.

l  Communication

Students are effective communicators.

l  Information Technology Skills

Students solve and analyze problems using their skills in information technology.

Impressive Research Output

Ø  Our faculty publish their research in top international journals, including the Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and Journal of Risk and Insurance.

Electronic Resources for Research and Analysis

Students and teachers in the Finance Department have access to numerous electronic resources, including

Ø  Financial periodicals, through databases such as ABI/INFORM Global, Business Source Premier, EconLit, the Wall Street Journal, SDOS, and the Social Science Citation Index.

ØIndustry data, through sources such as CRSP, COMPUSTAT and DataStream.

ØCommercial software, including SAS, MATLAB, EVIEW, AREMOS, and much more.

Ø  The Portfolio Architect financial simulation platform.

Global Perspective

Ø  FCU promotes international activities and study abroad projects. We offer academic exchanges, cooperative programs, and diverse opportunities for graduate students and faculty to conduct research abroad.

Student Professional Expertise

Ø  To help Finance majors apply the theories they have learned in investment and risk management, we work with financial institutions to host our yearly investment competition.

Ø  By cooperating with financial institutions, we open internship opportunities for Finance majors.

 

Ø  We do not stop caring for students after Orientation Period! We guide their professional development throughout the years of study at FCU. By preparing Finance majors for certification examinations, we help them become securities brokers, futures brokers, and much more.
