The college level Green Energy Development Center (GEDC) was established in August 2010. The mission of the GEDC is on energy technology research and personal training. Besides, it seeks the industrial and international cooperation to boost up the research quality and technology on the innovative green energy research for the next generation. This center has 9 professors, 10 staff and around 60 students.

The center is currently focusing on the research and development of bio-hydrogen, bio-methane and bio-CO2 fixation technologies and applications with projects mainly financially supported by the Bureau of Energy, MOEA.. The main technologies development included immobilization hydrogenase cell, granular cell hydrogen/methane fermentation, and anaerobic bio-hydrogen/bio-methane production enhancement (US patent: 7232669B1). In current real-plant development, “HyMeTek” is the critical point of our main technology. Seventeen patents have been obtained from Taiwan, China and USA in recent five years. The center also promotes regional cooperation by hosting international meetings such as the APEC Advanced Bio-hydrogen Technology Conference and Short-term Training Course and Asian Bio-hydrogen Symposium. This center is currently networking with several international research institutes, including TUT, KKU, HIT, CQU, UKM, BPPT, HCM-UNS and UNLV.
