Founded in 1961, the Department of Water Resources Engineering and Conservation is one of the four founding departments at Feng Chia University. The Department is known for our practical research and public service to the water-resource community in central Taiwan. The Department has over 4,000 undergraduate alumni and over 400 alumni with MS degrees. Currently, 16 faculty and 3 staff members serve 400 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students, including PhD candidates.
The mission of the department is to prepare our graduates to serve as professionals in water-related projects. Three aspects are emphasized in current research and training. One is the hydraulic problems encountered in land development in Taiwan, which include soil conservation in slope areas, reducing erosion in mountain rivers and sedimentation problems in reservoirs, eco-hydraulic designs for fish and eco-system, urban flooding and drainage system for rural areas and pollutant transportation/prevention in river and groundwater. The second area of emphasis is sustainable utilization of water resources and water quality management, which include optimization and instantaneous operation of reservoirs, surface water-groundwater allocation, and stochastic operation. The third area of emphasis is new technology in water resources education and water quality management, which include electronic-design of traditional hydraulic problems and hydro-informatics technologies.
